Cornerstone Church wants to provide a center of learning to make disciples of Christ and equip them for spiritual leadership in the workplace.
Meaning of Thrive
The Bible tells us, people thrive when they walk with God. Proverbs 11:28 says, “the righteous will thrive like a green leaf” (NIV). The word thrive is a picture of health, growth and reproduction. People who walk with God will experience his life, fullness, and abundance.
That’s what it says in Psalm 1:3, “[People who walk with God] are like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” If people thrive when they walk with God, then, we want to help them learn what it means to walk with God in all areas of life.
So, “THRIVE School of Discipleship” means we will offer discipleship classes that help Christians thrive in their walk with God.
importance of Thrive
There was a time when God asked Ezekiel a provocative question about Judah. He said, “Behold the seed has been planted; will it thrive? Will the seed wither ‘when the east wind strikes it—wither away on the bed where it sprouted?” (Ezek. 7:9-10).
This is a great discipleship question. Is spiritual life withering or thriving in America today? Is my spiritual life withering or thriving? That’s why the second part of God’s question to Ezekiel was, “Will the seed wither when the east wind strikes it—wither away on the bed where it sprouted?”
The goal of discipleship is to produce healthy Christ-followers who have vigor, stamina and grit in hard times. We want to prepare people to be fully alive in Christ, so that wherever they go and whatever they do their life is having an influence for Christ. This is what we are called to do. We are called to raise up a new generation of disciples who thrive.
John 15:16 ~ “I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide.”
